DESIGNING CHEMISTRY SOFTWARE FOR A CIVIL SOCIETY Development and the sustainability are often at cross purposes in the civil society. The chemical industry brings sharply into focus the schisms in the social processes more clearly than almost any other industry. With the projected migration of the chemical industry from the developed world to the developing world (since civility often does not cross national boundaries), the major concern is the environmental contamination as unprecedented as the projected pace of development. We have been concerned with the projections of these developments in the developing world and its short and long term implications and civil reactions that are bound to emerge as a reaction to the onslaught of development. The most obvious path of reaction to these developments would be more stringent regulations, while the fear is that these may come in only late.

We, at the Indoglobal Knowledge, are concerned with the development of software for chemical industry, with special emphasis on organic synthesis as applicable to various industries starting with Pharma. We have also realized that the teaching of organic chemistry suffers badly due to lack of instillation of hazards associated with chemistry and chemical industry, wherein most graduates are employed. Our own software development has given us a unique opportunity to dwell into some level of corrective measures towards awareness, which we hope would become the benchmark in handling process and chemical hazards, the way these are integrated into the software, drawing specific attention of the user up to the bench level. The eLabTool™ user community is an open forum to exchange ideas and views on such topics. Needless to say that the opportunity to interact with our potential users will add immense value to eLabTool™. Please visit http://elabtool.ning.com/ to be a part of this movement.
