Dr. Radhika Wakharkar, after post-graduation (M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry) from the Marathwada University, Aurangabad, completed her Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Pune, for which she worked at the National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune under the supervision of late Prof. K. Venkararaman. After her post-doctoral experience in USA, she joined the Organic Chemistry: Technology division, NCL, Pune as a scientist. Dr. Radhika retired from NCL in Dec. 2006 as Scientist F. During her tenure at NCL she also worked at Glasgow University for six months and visited Germany under CSIR-DAAD exchange of scientists programme. Her basic research included the syntheses of natural products, biotransformation reactions and development of synthetic methodologies for organic reactions. She supervised students for Ph.D. degree (Pune University). Dr. Wakharkar also worked on process development of drugs and drug intermediates as projects sponsored by industries. Other research activities included synthesis of prostaglandin analogues, new drug discovery programmes for anticancer and antifungal agents sponsored by Department of Biotechnology and Department of Science and Technology respectively. |
